I almost opened my emails again five minutes ago. I almost opened my emails again five minutes ago.I was going to "just check" the draft the designer sent over, but I know exactly what happens when I "just check." I end up frantically typing on the phone instead of being present for dinner with my family, trying to get everything I don’t *quite* like fixed immediately.Only for me to wonder why I never felt the peace I fought so hard for… So these days, I literally sit on my hands. Mostly – it doesn’t always work, but like I said, I’m recovering. But I breathe through my brain screaming at me that the project will fail if I don’t reply ASAP. I stay with my kid instead, who makes me laugh about the most “irrelevant” thing possible. I’m done being the bottleneck of my own life.So the draft stays as is, it’ll probably get published as the 9/10 it feels to me.I'd rather miss the perfect edit than my toddler's crazy milestones and my husband's dinner with the extra veggies just for me.Save this for the next time your hand goes for your phone at dinner. ❤️‍🩹
They think they get the fixes from me... But what They think they get the fixes from me...But what they actually get is so much cooler 💃🏼🔥Read the slides and tell me in the comments which one surprised you the most?
Do you think hiding who you really are is a good i Do you think hiding who you really are is a good idea? Spoiler: it's not. And the fix is literally smaller than you think. 🫖 #teatimetruths
It's midnight and you're nudging a logo two pixels It's midnight and you're nudging a logo two pixels to the left because nobody else would have caught it.That's not ‘high standards’ talking. It’s fear in disguise: The fear that if you hand this over, something imperfect slips through and your client notices before you do.So you stay buried in work only you can do. Not because of the pixel, but because it protects you: as long as you're the only one who can catch the mistake, you get to stay indispensable, and indispensable feels a lot safer than replaceable - even when replaceable is exactly what good leadership requires. So you keep the guarantee, plus you save yourself the time sink of building a team that doesn’t need you. Win-win?Except you burn yourself to the ground, because none of this is sustainable.Close the laptop. Let the pixel stay where it is and learn to take risks, so you get to have a life beyond the next mistake only you can catch.
